Today, Charger baseball announces a member of its incoming class of freshman for 2014-15, Matt Rivera. The INF currently attends Delaware Valley High School in Milford, PA.
"Georgia Highlands is a great fit for me, because of the opportunity that is being offered to me. I am very confident that Head Coach Mike Marra and his Coaching staff at Georgia Highlands will push me to my limits as I continue to polish my skills in preparation for the next level and make me the ball player that I know I can be." said Rivera.
As a junior at Delaware Valley High School, Rivera was selected First Team All-Conference, First Team All-League, Lackawanna League Division II, First Team all-star honors, also recognized as an Under Armour Pre-Season All American. Batted a .340 with 21 hits 15 runs scored, 17 batted in, and 6 doubles in 20 games for the Warriors.
Every time we saw Matt play, he would do something that was totally electric either offensively or defensively and after seeing him a bunch we realized it wasn't a fluke," GHC Coach Mike Marra said. "He plays with an extremely high motor and pairs great feet and hands with a big-time arm. We were lucky to get a guy like Matt when other schools were passing on him."
Matt Rivera plans to study Business Management at GHC and said his career goals include being able to focus on learning more about the business industry. Matt has also volunteered his time playing Soccer, Basketball and running Cross Country at Delaware Valley High School in addition he volunteered his time for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. His hobbies and interests include bowling, movies with friends and fishing.
His family members are Mother Zaira Rivera and Father Rene Rivera who are his biggest fans.
